Guido In Ashfield

Our mate Guido is breathing new life into the suburb of Ashfield, as part of a strategy to brighten up and bring new life to the community. In January Guido spent ten days during the Sydney heatwave to create the work on Liverpool Rd which was based on a picture of an unnamed local resident by photographer Mitchell Fong.

Guido’s intention for this particular piece was to capture the essence and tell the story of the highly multicultural Ashfield community through the depiction of the people that live there. This was achieved by dedicating a considerable amount of time to research and community engagement, building a strong relationship and delivering a timeless art piece that reflects the true nature and soul of the city.

Loretta Lizzio – Juddy Roller Lane

Loretta Lizzio has once again shown us why she’s a real force within the street art scene by producing this stunning piece. Loretta has a real comfort with colour and knows how to make your eyes happy, always bringing these strong colour palettes to the table. How good is that gold by the way!

The mural stands vividly amongst the magic within the Juddy Roller lane, which is constantly being repainted by Australia’s and the world’s best. With names such as Sofles, Smug, and Adnate sitting around, it’s not hard to see why this laneway is one of the most prolific in Australia and Melbournes best-kept secret. The mural is located out the front of the Juddy Roller Studios (just off Johnston Street), so if you’re in the neighbourhood you come and check it out.

The Juddy Roller Gallery is also open from 10am-4pm and currently hosting Dan “Ears” O’Toole’s ‘Bending Light’ solo exhibition. Thanks to Rune for the media content.

In The Studio – Daniel “Ears” O’Toole

danpress3

This month we had the opportunity to meet up with the friendly faced and Sydney based artist ‘Ears’, while completing an in-house studio visit in the build up to his exhibition at the Juddy Roller Studio.

For those who don’t know, Ears is a Sydney born and bred artist, with a serious multitude of skills and disciplines working across painting, sound, photography and video. He is mostly known for a warped portrait style on the streets, which is illustrative and playful. His artwork offers a unique style which is produced from a very hands-on approached process well before the paint hits the canvas. We caught up over a few beers to chat about what he has been up to.

Dan ‘Ears’ O’toole – Bending Light Exhibition

In anticipation of Dan ‘Ears’ O’toole’s upcoming exhibition titled ‘Bending Light’ curated by Juddy Roller, we take a quick look at the artist and mind behind the brushes.

‘Bending Light’ is series of images made through photographic processes; transcribed from photography into paintings, the works become distorted in two stages and are in essence a series of experiments that aim to discover the ways in which light, colour and form can be manipulated to augment reality.

The exhibition commences on Friday the 2nd of June at The Juddy Roller Gallery. Entry is free! So come and enjoy some great artwork in good company.

Thanks to the crew at Round 3 for the video!

Wall to Wall Festival 2017

After returning to Benalla for the third annual Wall to Wall Festival, the usually sleepy town once again came to life to celebrate Victoria’s increasingly popular street art festival. This year’s festival drew record crowds and attracted many travellers and tourists alike from all around Victoria to view the high-end contemporary street art.

The colourful street art festival hosted an assortment of nationally and internationally renowned artists along with the local paint and chalk artists, who came together to brighten up the streets of Benalla. It was truly spectacular to see such high-quality artworks densely populating such a small area of space, transforming the cute town into a regional cousin of Fitzroy or Collingwood.

Steve Cross – The Black Ocean

We are honoured to be hosting Steve Cross’ first Melbourne solo exhibition, The Black Ocean at Juddy Roller. We have the greatest respect for Steve, both as an artists and as a friend. He’s a very gifted, very humble man. One of Australia’s foremost tattooers, and respected for his deep roots in traditional graffiti culture, Steve has been practicing graffiti  for over 20 years. We are very excited to see him bring his new collection of aerosol and oil paintings to Fitzroy this Friday for the first Juddy Roller show of the year.

Opening 6pm this Friday 15th of April,  at Juddy Roller Gallery.

An artist in her own right, this collection of interment photographs of Steve, working tirelessly on the creation of  The Black Ocean, were taken by P1xels

Melbourne Grand Prix

Such a rad project! Thanks to all the people involved that made this one happen. While we were in Benalla for Wall to Wall the rest of team were down here owning the F1. Big ups!

“Melbourne’s internationally famed lane way culture was in full swing in the all-new M-Lane precinct. M-Lane was created to  showcasing Melbourne’s  best street artists, local chefs, food trucks and music.

Juddy Roller curated 15 artists to create murals that were painted onto 15  5x5m shipping container installations. This was one of Juddy Roller’s most logistically challenging projects and it was a huge success, with Juddy Roller’s curated selection of street artists dominating social the new M-Lane precinct.”

Thanks so much to P1xels for capturing the process so well. Your such a gun!

Cam Scale x Senekt

Cam Scale and Senekt have been working on something big down Collingwood way. If your heading along Johnston St you can’t miss it. Nice to see such a large scale collaboration happening just around the corner from Juddy. So many awesome projects going on in Melbourne at the moment.  I guess summer is over so no time to waste! Photos, as always, are by the talented @P1xels.
