Melbourne Housing Estate

In Collingwood, Melbourne, a striking 50-meter mural transforms a 1960s public housing block into a bold symbol of community pride and resilience. Commissioned by Juddy Roller in 2018, this piece by renowned local artist Matt Adnate was, at this time, the tallest mural in the Southern Hemisphere, visible from miles around, thanks to its vivid colors and impressive scale.

This mural isn’t just a work of art; it’s a conversation starter and a celebration of the diverse residents who call this place home. The artwork depicts four members of the Collingwood community: two children, Arden Watson Copley and Ni Na Nguyen, and two adults, Badria Abdo and Yulious Antares Taime, each representing the spirit of strength, migration, and hope that defines this vibrant neighborhood. Their portraits are more than just images—they are stories of resilience and belonging, honoring the rich tapestry of Melbourne’s multicultural heritage.
